New BrandsNew Montecristo Open for 2009? A new milder Montecristo Line called "Montecristo Open" is tentatively proposed for sometime in 2009. It will be targeted at the duty free stores. It was originally intended to be called "Montecristo Sports". It is assumed that it will form part of the Montecristo range rather than a separate brand, i.e. similar to the Cohiba Siglo range. |

New Special Releases New Special Releases for 2009 Preliminary advice is that the following Regional Editions have been selected: Germany - Bolivar 109 El Conde 184 x 50 Germany - Bolivar Delicados 192 x 38 Apparently, the following cigars are available for selection by other regions. It is not know if this is an exclusive list. New Packaging New Packaging for 2009 Nothing proposed at this stage. Given that much of the proposed 2007 packaging was put back to 2008 (and has still not appeared as of August 2008) new packaging is unlikely. |

Discontinued Brands Current Brands in Jeopardy? During the 2008 review of cigars to be deleted, the following 3 brands were considered for deletion: Rafael Gonzalez Sancho Panza Vegueros. Consideration was reportedly also given to reducing the La Gloria Cubana brand to a single cigar (the Medaille D'Or No 2). While neither of these options were acted upon, it does show current thinking. |

Discontinued Cigars Likely 2009 Deletions From a preliminary list of 58 cigars, Tabacuba has indicated that 13 will probably be discontinued at the end of 2009. The reduction is due to low sales figures. General Production Items Cigar Production 2008 There is a current shortage of wrapper and the production of larger vitolas will be down this year. Cigars in general are on the milder side due to the current Ligero being slightly milder in strength. This is a normal seasonal variation and not a planned blend change. |
