This is a privately setup website; developed, owned, operated, and maintained at my cost as a retirement hobby. My goal is an up-to-date website on the post-revolution period of Cuban cigars. Where appropriate, some pre-revolution information is included. The site is an information and reference site. It has free, unrestricted entry, and no login. The site does not include cigar reviews, or forums, or blogs.....there are other sites that adequately cover those aspects. There is no advertising, either imbedded or pop-up, within the website. This website does not sell cigars. Navigation This website is about information.....not fancy presentation techniques. Almost all information is two clicks away. Website access is by the main menu bar, displayed at the top of each page. The menu bar is subdivided into three groups, to indicate each link's basic content. Hovering over the link will display further information. The home page also contains a detailed site map. Clicking on a link will take your to a page that has either header links or drop-down boxes. Clicking on these links will take you direct to the information. Many pages can be scrolled down to view the entire contents. Users are encouraged to try all the links, as there is plenty of information available. Many of the images throughout the website can be clicked to display a larger higher-definition image (the mouse curser will change to a pointing hand and "click to enlarge" text is displayed). The clickable cigar images are cigars from my photographic and reference collection. Development I started work on this website in April 2006. It was released as a basic version in June 2006, through the Friends of Habanos Cuban Cigar Forum. The site developed into its present form over a period of some 12 months and is continually being fine-tuned, updated and extended. In August 2008, a database version of the website was released, which allows quick and accurate updating of data and the introduction of an advanced search function. In April 2009, the website was transferred to a dedicated IP address, to allow residents of China to access the website. In May 2009, a further site upgrade was completed; to extend the flexibility of the website to accept multiple images for individual releases plus other site enhancements. In 2010 the progressive upgrading of cigar images commenced to include higher quality images and pop-up higher resolution images of actual cigars, and several further programming improvements were carried out. |

This site could not have developed without the support, contribution, and encouragement of many people: Min Ron Nee Special acknowledgement is made to Min Ron Nee for his contribution to
the world of Cuban Cigars by the publication of his magnificent book
An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Post-Revolution Havana Cigars. The author has very generously granted formal authorisation for me to use any of his photos from the current MRN book in the CubanCigarWebsite. His invaluable gesture is greatly appreciated. For a short review of this MRN classic book - click here Individual Contributors There are many individuals who have supplied extensive information and images on specialist items. Many have put in a substantial time and effort. Their names remain confidential (for various reasons) but their generous assistance is gratefully acknowledged. Many individuals have also opened their humidors and generously gifted, traded, or allowed me to purchase many scarce cigars to display on this website. My special thanks to them. Company Contributor Links The following links acknowledge companies that have assisted in the development of this website: Cigar Czar Queensland, Australia C. Gars Ltd London, UK La Casa del Habano Luxembourg La Casa del Habano Hamburg, Germany Mercer Cigars Merida, Mexico Top Cubans Geneva, Switzerland Cigar Chief Ontario, Canada Camelot Zagreb, Croatia Duty Free Cuban Cigars Cayman Islands La Gloria Cubana Cigars USA Website Programming Acknowledgement is especially made to Alexander Groom (aka Zeedar Teretz - a fellow brother of the leaf), who generously freely donates his time and expertise in the programming and upgrading of the website. His initial suggestions and feedback resulted in many substantial improvements to my basic website layout; especially the new database and the advanced search feature. Alex continues to provide input and "tweaking" of the website, and recently finalised a further upgrade, to both enhance the website display and to permit easier maintenance. This, together with the new images, will be a substantial improvement to the website. Without Alex's assistance and input, the website would never have progressed to its present stage of development. Frequently asked questions, or questions you never thought to ask: Internet Explorer 8 Implications Visitor Counter FAQ Authenticating or Valuing Cigars Opinions Regarding Vendors Affiliations Internet Explorer 8 Implications Microsoft has released Internet Explorer 8. Despite this website being fully developed using Microsoft software and hosted on a Microsoft platform, there are some compatibility problems. These problems should now be rectified. Basically, IE8 has been made more compliant with world standards. If problems persist, they can be resolved as follows. Click Tools in the menu bar. Scroll down and click on Compatibility View Settings, and click the Add button to add this website. Images sizes can also be changed. Open the zoom button at the bottom right-hand corner of the browser, select custom, and adjust the zoom percentage to suit your monitor. The text size can be adjusted. Click on View in the file menu, scroll down to Text Size, and select from the 5 available options. Visitor Counter FAQ The counter shown on the home page was installed on 16th March 2009 and is a general interest counter. The counter records the location of the web-server through which a user accesses the internet; not the user's physical location. With these counters, a user is only counted if they enter the website via the Home Page. Return visits in any 24 hour period are not counted. The counter records visitors, not "hits". Authenticating or Valuing Cigars I do not authenticate, value, or rate cigars. Opinions Regarding Vendors I do not comment on the suitability of venders, nor their prices. Affiliations Except for this website, I am not (nor have I ever been) employed by (or involved in) any part of the cigar or tobacco industry. I do not sell cigars or any other tobacco product or accessories. I am an active smoker of Cuban cigars. |
